From Brazil, young poet Sofia Dantas reminds us that peace doesn’t always appear in grand gestures or distant dreams. To her, peace is woven into the fabric of everyday life—moments of safety, kindness, and quiet belonging. In her words, it’s found in laughter with friends, in the loyal companionship of her dog, and in the stillness that makes the world feel gentle again. Her poem captures this truth with tender simplicity: that peace is not far away. It lives in the wag of a tail, the comfort of a hug, and the knowledge that we are safe—held by love, however small.
Peace with my Dog
When the world feels loud,
my dog is quiet besides me.
His tail wags, his eyes shine
and suddenly everything is calm.
Peace is not far away –
it’s in the small moments,
like sitting on the floor, hugging him
and knowing I am safe.
